Amazon.com: How to Be Alone: Essays: Jonathan Franzen: Books
I started this on the way in this morning and already halfway through the first essay I am convinced that this is the stuff I love reading most. Having been overly impressed with his more recent collection, The Discomfort Zone: A Personal History, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this, having only read one of these essays before (in a contemporary list class my senior year back in 06, taught by this guy). Give me a well written and researched personal essay, preferably by a man that’s weathered the storm of finding himself and his voice, and I’ll love it if I can relate on any level. And Franzen, DFW, HST, Amos, Max, Simmons, and others do just that for me and that’s why they’re my favorites, always.
