Amazon.com: In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto: Michael Pollan: Books
Walking to the PATH this morning, after a fun Thursday night and a good sleep, I saw the man walking next to me open a book, then close it, flashing its cover.
It happened to be the very same book I had on me as well, In Defense of Food by Pollan. Without pause, I took my borrowed copy out of my bag and waved the cover in front of us both to catch his attention; it worked, we were of the same ilk.
“Great book, isn’t it?” I started.
“Going to change the world,” he remarked. If only, I thought. God bless New Yorkers.
“He’s such a good writer. I feel as though we’ve been given an edge, reading this book. Like now we know better,” I offered.
“My friend said that when you’re in the grocery store, buy products from the outside edges. It’s the stuff in the middle with the longest shelf life. Good advice,” he confirmed.
“Indeed,” I nodded, and we went our separate ways, realizing that The Kindle would’ve taken that small interaction away from us, and glad that we still had time.
