Whatever Works
is a good movie. I finally saw it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I don’t know why I was so hesistant in the first place, I mean it’s Woody Allen + Larry David, and it delivered. Fans of Woody Allen movies or Curb Your Enthusasium will not be disappointed. In fact, I might go so far as to say that Whatever Works is my favorite Woody Allen movie, if only because I really enjoyed Larry David service as Allen’s mouthpiece in what is such a tightly well written movie. If you can imagine a more tempered and sweetened Curbed, then you have an idea of what WW is all about. It was great to see LD in an more controlled environment (less improvey) and made for some real genuine moments where his acting comes through. Things I was most worried about, ie. where LD breaks the fourth wall and the movie becomes meta at times, turned out to work, if only because the writing/ranting was so spot on. The rest of the movie was all about these fantastically created characters and pitch perfect jokes. I laughed and loved Whatever Works.
