Day 2: UnrelatedSideNote.com challenges PeterWKnox.com

Since discovering I had been linked to on Cindy’s site, see below, I’ve had several people ask me about our feud. Until yesterday I didn’t even know such a thing existed, but there’s no denying that this “fucking wanker” has wronged Cindy in some such way as to warrant such aggressive hyperlink wording.

I did some research (asked a few friends, spent 2 hrs delving into three years of her blog entries searching for clues, and checking Google Analytics) to come to a few conclusions of my own. Turns out I was right about the “minimal traffic” her site has contributed to me (3 visitors in all), but there’s no denying that something about this feud might have led to the highest number of visitors in the short brief history of PeterWKnox.com (82 in a day!). And when my brother asked me, “Who is Cindy Brown and why does she detest you? Do you even know her?” I figured my readers deserved a response.

Despite skimming through 837 blog entries last night, none mention me by name and despite being lumped into “the frat boys” that lived in the apartment across from her, most entries are about her circle of friends, personal introspection, her struggles with college and career, her longing for NYC, and her budding relationship with a seemingly nice fellow named Matt.

However, the hyperlink text makes it clear that she must “detest me,” and here has been what I’ve been able to surmise as to the reason why (please note that it could be just one or any combination of these hypothetical conclusions):

  • She was my RA across the hall senior year and we were a handful to live across from, so much so that we’d piss off even our own brothers that lived above us. See Why I Hate Frat Boys, It’s 2:15 am, and My Life As An RA. (Although we DID give back, see The Tony Danza Effect)
  • She was in my English classes and was perhaps resentful of me in some way. I did write a pretty awesome Pirate themed screenplay.
  • She used to write for my entertainment page and disliked how I managed my two pages and her column. True writers and editors never get along.
  • She was friendly with an exgirlfriend and therefore not with me. Sides were drawn.
  • She’s kept an admittingly pretensious blog for three years and considers my page lazy and largely unsubstantial, which it is.
  • She’s most likely projecting because I’m 23 and working for a publishing house in New York, while she’s 28 and doing tech writing, missing New York terribly.

Regardless, I find it amusing and commend her for being the only person (so far!) to link to this page on their site. Those three people she sent over have had their lives enriched by my content and are better for it. Meanwhile, the massive jump I had in traffic had to come as a result of something.

I encourage Cindy to respond. If she has a Facebook page, she’s blocking me, and I can’t keep up with her email address, but here’s mine: me (at) peterwknox.com

And if she’s reading “to feel better about [her] life” then at least she’s still reading, and I can’t be too picky when I put myself out there like this. Enjoy.
