tumblr meetup: what i’ve learned…
Each month Esquire has an awesome column, What I’ve Learned, where famous people share anecdotes of what they’ve learned throughout their lives. In a blatant copy of their super idea lets all share THREE things we learned last night.
1. It was completely acceptable to walk into this bar and yell “ARE YOU FROM TUMBLR?!??!?” to random people. The odds were in your favor.
2. The scene was about as surreal as I had expected it to be. The only thing missing was Ryan Adams, and if he had shown up, my brain would have exploded.
3. I was excited to hear the reactions of people when I told them my tumblr name. Some of you must have been just being courteous, but consider my ego stroked!
- The Tumblr Meet-Up was at the Fat Cat, not the Fat Black Pussycat. That egregious lack-of-an-iPhone error cost me a half hour in getting there.
- Again, it was amazing how humble, modest, and chill the guys that created Tumblr and the guys that popularized it can be. I keep forgetting that I live in New York and even people that everyone knows and recognizes are living amongst us as regular folk.
- More offline hanging out is necessary. I met people I need to lunch with during the week, fans I need to see Mets games with, guys I need to drink more with, girls I need to go shopping with, and even more people to follow and reblog.
