rmateulinks writes a terrific Kindle 2 review (and takes that great picture above). I just wanted to chime in myself as I really used my Kindle 2 for the first time last night. I had intended to download the new political boiler room, Game Change, only to be disappointed that the Kindle version won’t exist (for sale, anyway) for another month (the first casualty to affect me since this ebook delaying strategy, to encourage more expensive hardcover purchases at pub time, now SOP at a few publishing houses).
But falter, I did not. I merely navigated to my Wish List and asked for a sample chapter of American Voyeur. I hadn’t heard of journalist Benoit Denizet-Lewis, but after catching his Modern Love column in the NYT, his NYT Magazine feature before that, his book excerpt on Deadspin, and his excerpt on Gawker. As if all of those pieces of the book and his writing weren’t enough, I was immediately breezing through the intro on my Kindle, lying in bed on my side, and greatly enjoying how easily I could literally thumb through the pages.
The sample ended (thought it was much longer than I had expected) just into Chapter 1, and with one click I spent $9.99 to have the Kindle version forever.
And reading it on the way in has been just as easy. I strongly suggest both the Kindle and American Voyeur for those lying in bed, but not ready to go to sleep.
