Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Bakersfield) issued a written apology Wednesday after being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
“I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment,” Ashburn said. “I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did. I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me – my family, my constituents, my friends, and my colleagues in the Senate.”
More here. He was coming out of a gay nightclub and had an ‘unidentified man in the passenger seat’. Yes, of course he’s a gay right’s opponent.
Of course. And MADD activist. (I likely made that second item up, but who knows these days)
-haha, and Balk weighs in here, with this:
Shocking news out of California, where a Republican state senator with a history of hostility to gay rights legislation was arrested for driving drunk after spending time at a popular Sacramento gay bar. Not only that, there was an unidentified male (who, the news report helpfully notes, was not a fellow lawmaker) in the passenger seat! This is kind of astounding to me. Why would a guy who does not support gays go to one of their gathering places? And why would he leave with another man? I can’t for the life of me understand any of this. It seems completely unprecedented.
