These are all important.
Ok, everyone’s reblogging this, and yes, there are some really likeable, smart, and mature qualities here. But what bugs me about this list (and perhaps some women as well) are the glaring inconsistencies about it. Some are even listed in juxtaposition - it’s too easy!
8. …will not watch ESPN endlessly.
9. …will not judge me for watching bad TV.
Ok. But you just judged me for watching ESPN. Cute.
And here:
2. …will recycle, donate to a cause, volunteer, and otherwise be a contributing member to society’s well-being.
19. …will be content sometimes to spend the whole day in bed watching movies and eating takeout.
I think both are very important and that yes, it’s good to be giving of your time and money to better our world, and equally good is lounging around all day with someone you really enjoy being with, but you can’t do both at the same time. Why not motivate each other and get involved in charity work together?
And others are just impossible to decipher ourselves:
11. …will not want to spend every waking second with me.
12. …will call and not text.
25. …will text or call just to say ‘Hi.’
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! I’m looking at my phone, thinking about you, but what should I do?? Where on the list does “G-Chat” fall?
And then, too easy, there’s these two:
69. …will like going out on a week night sometimes, rather than just watching TV.
70. …will be responsible with money.
Back to back! I mean, what? It’s Wednesday. Do we stay in and watch tv (obviously not, LOST is on Thursdays) and look at the (lack of) money in my bank account or do we go out and spend it? Well, does this mean watching tv on Saturday night instead?
The message is, like a lot of what men stereotypically get from their women partners, mixed. Go out but save money. Call every time you think about us but give us space. Give consistent fantastic orgasms but spontaneously surprise us all the time but never forget foreplay and keep your eyes open but know I like it when you take control, blah blah WHAT?
93. …will love that I’m independent.
94. …will be okay with little displays of affection such as holding hands.
God forbid the teenager looking for romantic advice his stoic dad is too proud to bestow on him stumbles upon this site and tries for all 100 qualities. Here’s hoping he’s ok with cognitive dissonance.
(disclaimer: I don’t pretend to understand women and I’m under no delusions that I’m the perfect catch. I just can’t let something like this go unquestioned. 100 Girlfriend Qualities written by a guy would be eviscerated online. It’s ok to enjoy these and dream big, but realize the slight fantastical foolishness in taking this too seriously. And, pps, I’m in a wonderful relationship for the first time in a very long time and by no means want nothing but the best for my girlfriend, she deserves it, I was just hoping for some actual insight in this list. :)
